Questions before you book
If your question isn't here, put it in the form and Janice will answer it on the call.
Do I need to be there?
It's recommended for the first session, because the decisions are yours and they go faster in person. After that you can leave a key and come home to a finished room. When you're not present, rules are agreed in advance: what's an automatic keep, what's an automatic donate, and what's set aside for you.
Do I need to tidy before Janice comes?
No. Janice needs to see how the space works day to day, and tidying hides that. Leave it as it is and buy nothing in advance.
What happens to my things?
Nothing leaves without your decision. Donations go with Janice to MCC Thrift Store in Rancho Cucamonga, and the receipt is emailed to you. Items worth selling are pointed out, but Janice doesn't sell them for you. Large items and e-waste aren't hauled; Janice explains what your city collects.
Do I buy the bins, or does Janice?
Either, and often neither, since most homes already own enough containers. If something is needed, Janice can send a list with links, or buy it, deliver it, and return what isn't used. If she buys, you approve a written estimate first, and you pay store cost plus 20 percent with a $50 minimum per order, receipts included.
How much does it cost?
The rate is $75 an hour with a 4-hour minimum. A half day of 4 hours is $300, a full day of 6 hours is $420, and a prepaid 20-hour package is $1,350. The Pricing page has example projects, and the plan gives the exact figure before you commit.
How long does a room take?
A pantry or a reach-in closet, one half day. A kitchen or a walk-in closet, a full day. A two-car garage, two full days. A whole house, a series of sessions on a written plan. Janice gives a range on the first call and a firm number in the plan.
When are garage projects booked?
October through May. A closed garage in summer is too hot to work in safely or well, so no garage projects are scheduled June through September. Fall dates fill first, so book early.
How far does Janice travel?
Janice is based in Upland. There's no travel charge within 20 miles, which covers Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Pomona, Chino Hills, Glendora, and the towns between. From 20 to 35 miles, including Pasadena, Riverside, Redlands, and Fullerton, there's a flat $25 charge per session. Beyond 35 miles, travel is agreed in writing before booking.
Can Janice help with a move, and does she pack?
Yes, before and after. Before: editing down so you're not paying to move things you'd donate, plus a packing plan with room labels and an essentials box. After: unpacking and setting up the new home, kitchen first. Janice plans the packing but doesn't pack boxes; movers are faster and insured for it.
Can labels be in Spanish?
Yes. Basic labels are available in Spanish as well as English. Say so on the call or in the form and they're made that way from the start.
Can I ask for a background check or a confidentiality agreement?
Yes to both. A background check is available on request, at your expense. A confidentiality agreement can be signed before the first session. Janice doesn't photograph your home without written permission, and never shows faces or addresses.
Is Janice insured, and what if I'm not satisfied?
Yes, insured. If a space doesn't work the way it was planned, tell Janice within 14 days and she comes back and fixes it at no charge.
How do the deposit and rescheduling work?
A $100 deposit holds your dates and is applied to your final session. Rescheduling is free with 48 hours' notice. With less notice, but not on the day, the deposit moves to the new date once. A same-day cancellation or no-show is billed at the 4-hour minimum, $300.
How do I pay?
Payment is due at the end of each session, by credit or debit card, bank transfer, or Venmo. Package hours and product estimates are paid in advance.
